The Best Month of Them All...

October is my favorite month of the year. Seriously who doesn't love it when the trees go from green to such beautiful colors that just take your breath away.
It also brings cooler weather, which means breaking out my favorite piece of clothing. The super comfy hoody.

Most importantly it's the month that brings the best holiday of them all. Known by many names...Samhain, Samhaim, Calan Gaeaf, All Hallows Eve, All Saints Eve, or the more common Halloween.

One of my earliest memories was going out with my older cousins Trick R Treating. I was five or six. I had a pink and white Barbie Cowgirl outfit. It was vinyl and I loved it. We didn't use plastic buckets or fancy bags. We used pillow cases. We would fill the pillow cases, return to the house, dump the candy and go back out again.
When we were older I remember changing costumes and making the rounds a second time. It seemed like almost every house had a light on and was giving out candy. It seemed like every house had some kind of decoration.

As I got older and was too old to Trick R Treat, I helped my Mother decorate our yard and give out candy. We stuffed old clothes to make fake monsters with old masks. Cobwebs covered the yard. Classic Halloween music boomed from our house. A strobe light made it all even more spookier. We delighted in kids saying we had the scariest house in the neighborhood.

Now as an adult, I don't get to Trick R Treat anymore. We live in an apartment and tho there are many kids in the neighborhood, we have never had a knock on the door. Not one single knock. In fact this year our complex newsletter suggested doing a Trunk or Treat event at the local YMCA. No mention of door to door Trick R Treating. That seems so entirely sad.

But we celebrate anyway. We light all the pumpkins and candles, and we have a Halloween movie marathon. It's also our anniversary and we do other freaky things. ;)

That being sad, I love hitting Michaels, Target and other big box stores to see the newest of the Halloween goodies. I love hitting the thrift stores for costume inspirations and I love checking out the fly by night Halloween shops that pop up and are gone so quickly.

But mostly I love the inspiring craftiness of other Halloween fans on the web. I recently became addicted to Pinterest, the best kept secret of the internet. Pinterest has only feed my Halloween and Horror addiction. If you haven't checked it, you should. If you need an invite, leave a comment with your email addy and I will send one to you.

Here are a few of my Halloween favorites courtesy of Pinterest.
